Teen Tuesday – Focus on Others

neil-armstrong-meme

Thought this was hilarious, but sadly true.  Why is this generation so consumed with itself and appearances?  In a world that has shrunk so much due to technology, where we can see what’s going on in the world and other people’s lives in real time, how is it that we are still so focused on ourselves?  Is it social media that allows us to post about ourselves all day long?  Is it advertising that tells us we have to look a certain way?  Is it society that encourages us to take care of number one and get ahead?  Maybe it’s all of the above.

I want to encourage everyone (myself included) to focus on others today.  Put yourself last.  Don’t worry about what you look like to others.  Don’t worry about what others are thinking about you.  Don’t put your own needs first.  Don’t put your worries and concerns in the forefront of your mind.  Think about others first.  What are their needs?  What are they worried or concerned about?  What might they need from you?  A kind word?  A listening ear?  A helping hand?  Or maybe just your attention?  Either way, you’ll never know unless you choose to focus on others instead of yourself.
